Amber McGlawn, Ph.D

Academic Coach

Originally from North Carolina, I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a member of the varsity swim team. Once my athletic career came to an early end after multiple injuries, I realized I needed to focus on school and discover a new passion: helping others. I graduated from UNC with a B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science and a second major in Psychology. From there, I went on to earn an M.Ed. in Exercise Science, a Ph.D. in Kinesiology, and an additional M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University. I am a National Certified Counselor, as well as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor here in DC. I have worked in several roles within higher education, and I find purpose in each role helping students reach their ultimate professional, academic, and personal goals.

Outside of work, you can find me binging the latest Netflix series, learning to play guitar, going on long walks with my husband and our two “dogters” (dog daughters), and exploring all DC has to offer!
