About Your First Semester Courses

The dual degree Architecture and Civil Engineering major is a five-year program that encompasses both discipline areas.

To begin your study of architecture this fall, you should register for Introduction to Architecture (ARPL 101). Besides an introduction to the world of design and architecture, this class will help you raise your powers of observation and awareness of the quality of the designed environment.

Register for Introduction to Engineering Design and Professionalism (ENGR 102), a general introduction to the design process for all the engineering disciplines.

You will need to take Calculus 1 (MATH 121). To find out if you are ready for calculus, take the calculus placement exam and register for the math course into which you place. Placement can also be determined by an AP or IB exam; consult with your advisor if this applies to you.

You will also register for Introduction to Computer Programming  (CSC 113) and the 1-credit course Applied Steel and Fabrication (CEE 200).
