The Writing Center offers three modalities: in-person at Mullen Library, online synchronous via Zoom, and online asynchronous with Google Docs. All appointments can be made via our website. Our in-person appointments will take place in Mullen Library 219. Asynchronous Google Docs appointments allow you to share your writing with us and then receive written feedback. Please note that 1-hour appointments are available and can be made by scheduling two 30-minute sessions back-to-back.

For In-Person Appointments

Use the "Make an Appointment with the Writing Center" link on our homepage. That will take you to your Cardinal Success page, where you can click on the blue "Get Assistance" button in the upper right corner of the page. You will then need to answer a few questions:

  1. What type of appointment would you like to schedule? Academic Support
  2. Please select a service: From the options under "Writing Center In-Person Mullen Library Appointment," choose the one that corresponds to your level of coursework
  3. Pick a date: Choose the date on which you would like to schedule the In-Person Appointment 
  4. Click "Find Available Time"

You'll be redirected to a list of available time slots on your chosen date. Select the time that works best for you. When you confirm your appointment, please include in the comment box a brief description of the writing project, which course it is for, and what you would like to focus on in the session. 

 

For Zoom Appointments:

Use the “Make an Appointment with the Writing Center” link on our homepage. That will take you to your Cardinal Success page, where you can click on the blue "Get Assistance" button in the upper right corner of the page. You will then need to answer a few questions:

  1. What type of appointment would you like to schedule? Academic Support
  2. Please select a service: From the options under "Writing Center Zoom Appointment," choose the one that corresponds to your level of coursework
  3. Pick a date: Choose the date on which you would like to schedule the Zoom Appointment
  4. Click "Find Available Time"

You'll be redirected to a list of available time slots on your chosen date. Select the time that works best for you. When you confirm your appointment, please include in the comment box a brief description of the writing project, which course it is for, and what you would like to focus on in the session. After your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an email containing a link to your scheduled Zoom session. You will be able to use that link to log in to the Zoom meeting at your appointed time.

 

For Google Doc Asynchronous Appointments: 

Use the “Make an Appointment with the Writing Center” link on our homepage. That will take you to your Cardinal Success page, where you can click on the blue "Get Assistance" button in the upper right corner of the page. You will then need to answer a few questions:

  1. What type of appointment would you like to schedule? Academic Support
  2. Please select a service: From the options under "Writing Center Google Doc Asynchronous Appointment," choose the one that corresponds to your level of coursework
  3. Pick a date: Choose the date on which you would like to schedule the Google Doc Asynchronous Appointment
  4. Click "Find Available Time"

You'll be redirected to a list of available time slots on your chosen date. Select the time that works best for you. Note that you do not need to be available in any way during your Google Doc Asynchronous Appointment. One of our consultants will review your writing project and will follow up by email with written feedback approximately an hour after the appointment time. Before you confirm your asynchronous appointment, please include in the comment box all of the following:

  1. A link to your Google Doc. Please make sure that your Google Doc's share settings are set to "Anyone with this link" has (at least) "Commenter" privileges.
  2. The prompt to the assignment in question, pasted in.
  3. 2-3 main concerns that you would like the consultant to focus on. (Please keep in mind the time constraints of a one-hour session, especially in the case of longer papers. Greater specificity will enable the consultant to address fully those areas that are most concerning).

 

Other Important Information

Be aware that canceling the appointment on the day of will mark you as a "no-show" for the appointment. After two no-shows, you will be unable to schedule further appointments until your advisor unblocks your account.


Out of consideration for your colleagues, please do not make multiple "safety" appointments and please refrain from canceling appointments on short notice whenever possible.
