Academic and Career Advisor
Social Sciences
As a student, my experience with higher education had a lot of twists and turns. I could have used an Academic Advisor but was left to try to figure things out independently. At 20, fairly directionless, I dropped out of college for four years, where I spent many hours in the public library, fueling my interest in American history. I eventually earned my BA from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and my Ph.D. from Northeastern University.
After finishing my formal education, I spent two decades as a Professor of History at Colorado Mesa University. My own story led me to adopt a pedagogy of kindness and a student-centered approach to teaching and learning. I also kept coming back to the idea that I wanted to work more closely with students.
In 2022, I left my former career to pursue a new career path in advising. I sold most of my belongings, packed what was left, and drove 1900 miles to Washington, DC. I love being in this city and am happy to be in a position that allows me to help others find their own paths to whatever comes next.
